Drug Warning: Mobic

Generic name: meloxicam (class of drugs known as NSAIDs)

Manufactured and marketed by: Abbott Laboratories

Purpose: Prescribed to patients suffering from the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, which may include swelling, inflammation, stiffness, and joint pain.

Side Effects Reported

  • NSAIDs have been linked to liver damage.
  • Patients taking NSAIDs, including Mobic, should be aware of the symptoms of liver damage which include yellow coloring of the skin or eyes, dark urine, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and flu like symptoms.

Industry Report

NSAIDs may also be linked to cardiovascular problems including heart attack and stroke. In addition, NSAIDs may be associated with an increased risk of hypertension, congestive heart failure, and edema. NSAIDs as a class are also linked to gastrointestinal problems including bleeding and ulceration.
