The Laundress Bacterial Contamination Lawsuit
Laundry detergent and cleaning products company The Laundress issued a recall after bacterial contamination was reported in many of its products. Up to 8 million units have been recalled. The recall also includes products that were sold under different brand names.
Testing confirmed that multiple bacteria types have been identified including:
- Burkholder cepacia complex (B. cepacia)
- Klebsiella aerogenes
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Other Pseudomonas species
Infection with these types of bacteria may be serious or even life-threatening.
People who developed infections with Pseudomonas, Klebsiella or B. cepacia after using The Laundress laundry detergents and other products may be eligible for compensation.
The Laundress Bacterial Infections
Testing performed on products manufactured by The Laundress products has shown potential contamination with Burkholderia cepacian, Klebsiella or Pseudomonas bacteria.
These bacteria are considered to be pathogens and infections caused by them may be serious or life-threatening. These infections may be resistant and difficult to treat with antibiotics.
Infection with one of the bacteria, B. cepacia has been found to be fatal up to 42% of the people who develop severe infections. Pseudomonas and Klebsiella bacteria may cause infections in the blood and other organs or may result in pneumonia due to lung infection. In some cases, pneumonia and skin infections caused by bacteria may spread to infect other family members.
Some reports of infection including skin rash, septic shock and other health conditions have already been posted on social media. The company has confirmed that at least 11 cases of Pseudomonas infection have been reported and has stated that investigations into reported illnesses are ongoing.
Identifying Recalled Products
A recall for multiple laundry detergents, cleaning supplies and other products manufactured by The Laundress has been announced by the U.S. Consumer Safety Products Commission
Products which are included in the recall were manufactured by The Laundress between 2019 and the present. Some consumers may still have these products in their homes, residences or businesses and may be unaware of the recall.
Recalled products include:
- Signature Detergent
- Baby Detergent
- Delicate Wash
- Dish Detergent
- Glass and Mirror Cleaner
- Sport Detergent
- Surface Cleaner
- Wool & Cashmere Shampoo
Recalled products can be identified by lot numbers listed on the bottom of the bottles.
Recalled lot numbers include:
- Lot numbers F0001 to F9354
- Lot numbers H0001 to H2262
- Lot numbers T0001 to T5264
The Laundress may also have sold cleaning products under other store or brand names which may be included in the recall.

The Laundress Bacterial Contamination Recall Compensation
As part of the recall, the company “The Laundress” has offered refunds for the products. The refund instructions include proof of purchase or product ID requirements. Though The Laundress has identified at least 11 people who have reported Pseudomonas infections, the company has stated that the reports are still under investigation.
People who have become ill or developed infection with Pseudomonas or other bacteria have not been addressed. People who were diagnosed with a Pseudomonas, Klebsiella or B. cepacia infection or who developed symptoms of infection after using The Laundress products may be eligible for compensation for their injuries.
In addition, people who purchased cleaning products by The Laundress may have been placed at serious risk of harm or even death due to infection and may also be eligible for compensation.
