Earlier today, Judge Lawrence M. McKenna of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York issued an Order appointing Seeger Weiss LLP to serve as Liaison Counsel in In re UBS Auction Rate Securities Litigation, case number 08 Civ. 2967 (LMM). The Firm is working jointly with Girard Gibbs LLP of San Francisco and Stueve Siegel Hanson LLP of Kansas City, who were appointed by Judge McKenna as Lead Counsel and Co-Lead Counsel, respectively. These appointments followed the court’s designation of the Chandler Group as Lead Plaintiff in the litigation, brought under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. Seeger Weiss and their co-counsel represent aggrieved investors in this and approximately a dozen other securities fraud actions who have been deprived access and/or impairment to their investment principal as a result of widespread failures in the auction rate securities markets. These actions seek broad damages from broker-dealers and issuers who materially misrepresented the liquidity and attendant risks associated with the ARS.
