RIDGEFIELD PARK, NJ – Seeger Weiss partner Christopher L. Ayers has been appointed Interim Co-Lead Class Counsel in the Band-Aid PFAS litigation by the Honorable Judge Michael A. Shipp of the District of New Jersey. The litigation consolidates multiple class action lawsuits alleging that Johnson & Johnson and its spin-off company Kenvue Inc. sold Band-Aid brand adhesive bandages containing unsafe levels of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) chemicals while failing to disclose their presence to consumers.
PFAS are synthetic “forever chemicals” known for their persistence in the environment and human body. Testing has revealed detectable levels of PFAS in Band-Aid products, including the OURTONE line which features a variety of Black and Brown skin tones marketed to people of color. The lawsuits allege that defendants marketed Band-Aids as safe and high-quality while knowingly selling products containing dangerous PFAS chemicals without disclosing their presence.
“I am honored to serve as co-lead counsel in this important consumer protection case,” said Ayers. “For generations, millions of Americans have trusted Band-Aid products, applying them directly to injuries without knowing they contain forever chemicals that can be absorbed into the body. We are committed to holding Johnson & Johnson and Kenvue accountable for concealing the presence of these dangerous chemicals in their products and will work to ensure consumers have transparency about products they trust with their families’ health.”
