Meta has agreed to settle claims brought by 29 State Attorneys General in the midst of a federal bellwether trial in the Social Media Adolescent Addiction/Personal Injury Products Liability multi-district litigation (MDL).
Seeger Weiss Founding Partner Christopher A. Seeger serves as Counsel to the Co-Lead Counsel and Settlement Counsel in the MDL for the school district and personal injury plaintiffs.
The State Attorneys General alleged that Meta violated state consumer protection laws and the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act by designing Facebook and Instagram to be addictive to young users and collecting children’s personal data without parental consent.

Thousands of young people and public school districts still have claims pending in the MDL against Meta, as well as TikTok, Snap and YouTube, and we stand ready to continue that fight. We will not rest until every one of these plaintiffs sees justice for the harms caused by all of the defendants’ platforms.”

The MDL, pending before U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in the U.S. Northern District of California in Oakland, also includes personal injury plaintiffs, school districts, and Native American tribes; plaintiffs whose claims against Meta, TikTok, Snap, and YouTube remain ongoing.
