FAQ
Polyurethane Foam
Flexible polyurethane foam is a cushioning product used in residential and commercial furnishings, automotive interiors, carpet underlay and in hundreds of industrial, medical, packaging and technical applications.
Price-Fixing Scheme
In 2010, the U.S. Department of Justice raided the offices of multiple manufacturers of polyurethane foam as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged price-fixing, driving up the costs for buyers. Raided manufacturers include The Carpenter Company, Hickory Springs Manufacturing Company, Flexible Foam Products Inc., Foamex Innovations Inc., and The Woodbridge Group. Shortly after, plaintiffs across the country, upon learning about the antitrust violations, filed civil actions against 17 manufacturers.
Plaintiffs alleged that price fixing began at least as early as January 1, 1999, and continued until July 27, 2010. Seeger Weiss worked to secure justice for plaintiffs that purchased flexible polyurethane directly from manufacturers and reached a settlement totaling over $440 million.
