Zyprexa Products Liability Litigation

Zyprexa, an atypical antipsychotic developed by Eli Lilly, is commonly prescribed for treating schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Controversy arose when Eli Lilly faced allegations of promoting Zyprexa for unapproved uses, such as managing dementia symptoms in elderly patients, potentially endangering thousands of individuals with unapproved applications. In 2009, Eli Lilly pled guilty to illegal marketing practices, resulting in a combined settlement of over $1.4 billion, including federal and state fines. Additionally, in 2007 the company reached a $1.2 billion settlement to resolve roughly 28,500 Zyprexa-related injury claims across various courts.
