Jennifer Scullion Change Healthcare

RIDGEFIELD PARK, NJ – Seeger Weiss partner Jennifer Scullion has been appointed as co-chair of the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee for the Provider Track by the Honorable Judge Donovan W. Frank in the Change Healthcare, Inc. Customer Data Security Breach Litigation. The multidistrict litigation centralized in the District of Minnesota consolidates nearly 50 class action lawsuits arising from the devastating cyberattack on Change Healthcare on February 21, 2024, which disrupted critical healthcare payment systems nationwide and exposed sensitive patient data.

Following the cyberattack, medical providers, including hospitals, doctors’ offices, clinics, and pharmacies, were left struggling to maintain continuity of care and manage electronic transactions, prescriptions, and billing. The breach also exposed personally identifiable and protected health information of millions of patients to unauthorized access. Plaintiffs allege that Change Healthcare and its parent companies failed to implement adequate cybersecurity measures, resulting in widespread financial harm to healthcare providers and patients across the country.

“I am honored to receive this appointment from Judge Frank,” said Scullion. “The Change Healthcare cyberattack has had catastrophic consequences for healthcare providers nationwide, disrupting their ability to process insurance claims and receive timely payments for critical services. We intend to vigorously pursue this case to hold Change Healthcare and its parent companies accountable for their cybersecurity failures and to obtain just compensation for the affected providers.”

For over 20 years, Jennifer Scullion has held leadership positions in complex litigations. Jennifer is currently a member of the DAP Executive Committee in the MultiPlan Health Insurance Providers Litigation, Co-Liaison Counsel in the Copaxone Antitrust Litigation, and a member of the Manufacturers’ Committee and Law & Briefing Committee in the National Prescription Opiate Litigation, which has resulted in over $50 billion in settlements to address the opioid crisis. She is also a key member of the plaintiffs’ team, leading efforts to hold social media companies accountable for products endangering the lives of children in the Social Media Adolescent Addiction/Personal Injury Products Liability Litigation.

One of the nation’s preeminent plaintiffs’ law firms, Seeger Weiss is best known for multidistrict mass torts and class actions in both state and federal court—and especially for taking those cases to trial. Since its founding in 1999, it has led many of the most complex and high-profile cases in the country: the National Prescription Opiate Litigation, which the Washington Post called “the largest federal court case in U.S. history”; the ongoing “Dieselgate” scandal; the sprawling multistate litigation on behalf of survivors of child sexual abuse; and the history-making National Football League Players’ Concussion Injury Litigation.
