Michael Castiglione, Counsel at Seeger Weiss, is a former federal prosecutor and seasoned litigator with experience leading complex, high-stakes litigation. Before joining the firm, Michael served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of New York for over a decade, where he held roles in both the Civil and Criminal divisions.
While working at the Department of Justice, he led some of the most sophisticated investigations and litigation in the country. This included investigating and bringing civil fraud and consumer protection actions on behalf of the United States pursuant to the False Claims Act and other statutes. He served as lead counsel in United States v. UBS Securities, which resulted in a $1.435 billion settlement, the DOJ’s largest civil fraud recovery in 2023. In the criminal division, he led grand jury investigations and prosecuted crimes related to financial fraud, money laundering, tax fraud, and violent crime. He also handled civil and criminal forfeiture matters arising from a variety of offenses, including fraud and international money laundering schemes. During his time at DOJ, he received both the Attorney General’s Award for Fraud Prevention and the Executive Office for United States Attorneys Director’s Award for Superior Performance by a Litigative Team.
Before joining the Department of Justice, Michael practiced at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where he managed government investigations and litigated a broad range of state and federal matters, including securities, antitrust, and insurance coverage cases.
Michael received a B.A. from Columbia University and received a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was on the editorial board of the Virginia Law Review.
