Seeger Weiss LLP is one of this year’s sponsors of the 3Arts Awards as part of the firm’s dedication to building diversity within the legal industry and in institutions around the country. Seeger Weiss Associate Erica Kubly is a Board Member for the nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Chicago’s women artists, artists of color, and Deaf and disabled artists who work in the performing, teaching, and visual arts.

Seeger Weiss believes that diversity makes workplaces, institutions, and our world stronger, smarter, more resilient, and more just. Philanthropy, volunteer work, and pro bono efforts are core values, which is why the firm and its team are involved in numerous projects around the country to make a real impact.

“By providing funding for artists who are largely underrepresented, 3Arts is able to provide an opportunity for them to build momentum in their careers. They have resources beyond what would have previously been closed doors or lost opportunities,” Kubly said. “I am proud to work at a firm willing to support causes stretching outside of our walls and keep its commitment to building diversity across industries.”

Through cash awards, project funding, residency fellowships, professional development, and promotion, 3Arts helps artists by letting them take risks and experiment with their work. Since 2007, 3Arts has supported more than 1,800 artists—representing 69% women artists, 71% artists of color, and 19% Deaf and disabled artists—and distributed $5.8 million in grants and services.

“We are excited to support an organization that aligns with our values to advocate for diversity in communities and industries around the country. Our firm is committed to the inclusion of multiple and divergent perspectives to make our world stronger, smarter, and more resilient,” said Seeger Weiss co-founders Chris Seeger and Stephen Weiss. “It’s especially meaningful to support an organization where a Seeger Weiss attorney has dedicated her time and energy. We’re proud that Erica represents our firm and embodies our values in her work on the 3Arts Board.”

The 3Arts Awards is an annual celebration to honor Chicago artists and their indelible impact across our city and beyond. In addition to announcing award recipients, this year’s event features a dynamic showcase of commissioned works and performances by 3Art Artists, fiber and social practice artist Aram Han Sifuentes, singer and actor Bethany Thomas, and dancer Robby Lee Williams.

They will announce the newest award recipients in three categories:

  • 3Arts Awards, a signature program supporting ten artists in dance, music, theater, teaching arts, and visual arts with unrestricted $30,000 grants
  • Make a Wave Awards, surprise $2,000 grants for Chicago artists selected by past 3Arts Award recipients through an artist-to-artist giving program
  • Next Level/Spare Room Awards, three women visual artists receiving $50,000 grants to support the evolution of their practices

In addition, this year, 3Arts will split event donations with this year’s designated co-beneficiary, the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art.

New York area locals can follow nearby 3Art Artists, including Will Liverman, now performing at the Metropolitan Opera, or Amanda Williams in exhibit 216: Systems at The Museum of Modern Art.

If you’re interested in attending the free virtual event on November 7th from 6-7 pm CST, registration is live.
