Seeger Weiss Partner Christopher Seeger received the inaugural Monroe E. Price Award from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, his alma mater, at the school’s 50th Anniversary Gala at the Hall des Lumières in New York City on October 22, 2026.
The award is named for Monroe Price, who served as Dean of Cardozo Law from 1982 to 1991 and passed away this past March at age 87. Price founded one of the country’s first intellectual property programs, helped build many of Cardozo’s signature programs, and was a staunch advocate for free speech. The award honors a Cardozo graduate who reflects both sides of his legacy: challenging and re-creating existing structures, and using the law to advance justice. Cardozo recognized Chris as an embodiment of that legacy, both as a builder of unprecedented settlement structures and as an advocate for hundreds of thousands of people harmed by large corporations.
Seeger graduated magna cum laude from Cardozo Law in 1990, during Price’s deanship, and was managing editor of the Cardozo Law Review. Since 1999, he has built Seeger Weiss into one of the nation’s leading plaintiffs’ firms alongside fellow Cardozo Law graduates Stephen A. Weiss and David R. Buchanan. Courts have appointed Seeger to leadership roles in many of the country’s most complex multidistrict litigations.
“Receiving the first award to carry Monroe Price’s name, from the school that launched my career, is a tremendous honor,” said Christopher Seeger. “I was a Cardozo student while Monroe was dean, and his belief that the law can challenge existing structures and build something better has guided my work ever since. To be recognized as Cardozo celebrates its 50th anniversary makes it especially meaningful. I’m grateful to Dean Leslie and the Cardozo community, and I share this honor with my colleagues at Seeger Weiss and the clients who trust us to fight for them.”
“For nearly three decades, we’ve had a front-row seat as Chris reshaped mass and class action litigation, finding solutions where others saw only impasse and never losing sight of the people he represents,” said Seeger Weiss Partners Stephen A. Weiss and David R. Buchanan. “Price was a visionary and tireless advocate for social justice, and no one embodies those qualities more than Chris. Seeing him receive the first award in Monroe’s name, is a proud moment for all of us lucky to call him a partner and friend.”
The gala celebrates five decades of Cardozo Law, with proceeds supporting scholarships and Public Service Summer Stipends.
