Law360 (August 19, 2019, 8:28 PM EDT) — The Ohio federal judge supervising multidistrict opioid litigation approved lead attorneys Monday for a proposed “negotiation class” of local governments that would pursue nationwide settlements with drug companies accused of sparking a devastating addiction crisis.

In a five-page order, U.S. District Judge Dan Aaron Polster appointed Christopher Seeger of Seeger Weiss LLP and Jayne Conroy of Simmons Hanly Conroy LLC as interim co-lead counsel for the would-be negotiation class, a novel mechanism that would unite all U.S. cities and counties to seek global settlements with drug manufacturers, distributors and pharmacies.
