LG French Door Refrigerators
LG has become one of the world’s largest manufacturers of consumer electronics and home appliances, such as refrigerators. They pride themselves with being on the forefront of technology by providing the public with new and innovative technology. Most of their products aim to be environmentally friendly in their production and manufacturing, as well as making said products - refrigerators in this instance - more energy efficient. When LG introduced their line of French Door (two top doors consisting of the refrigerator, and the bottom drawer being the freezer with an ice dispenser in one of the doors) Refrigerators, or 3 drawer refrigerators, they were given an Energy Star rating by the Department of Energy. This Energy Star designation means that these refrigerators use approximately 20% less energy than other standard refrigerators. Subsequently, they are more expensive to purchase. LG marketed these French Door Refrigerators as Energy Star efficient, thus charging the consumer more of a cost to purchase but with the promise of reduced electric bills throughout the lifetime of the refrigerator.
Mislabeled Energy Efficient Refrigerators
Unfortunately, the actual energy that is used by these LG French Door Refrigerators was erroneously reported to the Department of Energy. Tests have shown that the refrigerator is not of Energy Star standards and actually is costing the consumer more money due to even higher electric bills.
