Crane Collapses around 91st St. & 1st Ave.
News broke Friday, May 30, 2008 of a crane that tragically collapsed as a construction crew started its day of work at 91st Street and 1st Avenue. Initial reports indicate that two people may have died in the collapse, and an undetermined amount of people were injured. The crane came crashing down on the condominiums it was helping to construct, and parts of the crane destroyed portions of adjacent buildings. This crane collapse is the second in a period of a few short months, after another crane came crashing down in the East 50's in March. Today's crane collapse comes just after some well-publicized construction-related incidents in the city, including at the site of the planned Goldman Sachs headquarters in lower Manhattan, which came in the wake of changes to the city's oversight of crane usage on construction sites.
