A class action lawsuit was recently filed on behalf of consumer purchasers of Hewlett-Packard ink jet printers with "smart chip" technology. Upon investigation, the Complaint alleges that printers using the "smart chip" technology deliver premature and false messages that advise the user that the cartridge needs to be replaced "when in fact, the printer cartridge is far from empty and can continue to print hundreds of additional pages of materials." In addition, the Complaint charges that the "smart chip" is programmed to "shut down the operation of a printer cartridge" after a predetermined number of days. The "expiration date" is set relative to the cartridge's date of manufacture, and will disable the cartridge even if it is full.
Please complete the questionnaire below if you own a HP printer that utilizes "smart chip" technology. Doing so will assist class counsel in prosecuting the case and will ensure that you will be notified of material developments in this case.
