Drug Warning: Trasylol

Generic name: aprotinin injection

Manufactured and marketed by: Bayer AG

Purpose: Prevent perioperative blood loss and the need for blood transfusion, in patients undergoing a procedure called coronary artery bypass grafting surgery.

Side Effects Reported

  • The FDA has issued a public health advisory for Trasylol, after two scientific publications have linked Trasylol to higher risks of harmful side effects, including kidney problems, heart attacks, and strokes.
