Daniel R. Wasp

Daniel R. Wasp is an associate with Seeger Weiss. He practices in the areas of mass tort and personal injury litigation, with an emphasis on asbestos. He worked on a recent $3.1 million settlement on behalf of an auto mechanic and Navy veteran who was diagnosed with mesothelioma at age 61. He also helped orchestrate a $2 million settlement on behalf of an 80-year-old California man who was diagnosed with mesothelioma after having worked on Shipyards in California and across the country.

Prior to Seeger Weiss, Mr. Wasp spent eight years practicing in the New York office of Wilentz, Goldman and Spitzer, a firm based out of New Jersey. There, he focused primarily on asbestos litigation, but also worked on childhood lead poisoning litigation and Phen-Fen litigation. One notable asbestos case was brought under the Federal Employers Liability Act statute that covers railroad workers. Mr. Wasp also helped structure a $1.8 million settlement for two cousins from the Bronx who suffered from lead poisoning. Before joining Wilentz, Goldman and Spitzer, Mr. Wasp worked at Kelly, Rhode & Kelly in Mineola, NY, an insurance defense firm that handles personal injury defense and insurance coverage issues.

Mr. Wasp attended the New York Institute of Technology (B.S., magna cum laude, 1994) and St. John's University School of Law (cum laude, 1998) on the GI bill, after spending 6 years on active duty in the US Navy. Four of those years were spent on board the USS Bainbridge CGN-25 as a machinist mate operating a nuclear powered propulsion plant. His experience operating a steam plant, including turbine generators and a steam turbine main engine has been a tremendous help in his work handling Navy, shipyard and powerhouse asbestos cases. Mr. Wasp also worked on a crew from the USS Bainbridge that helped rebuild an elementary school as a part of the relief effort in the US Virgin Islands following Hurricane Hugo in 1988. After serving on active duty from 1985-1991, during both Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1991-1994. Mr. Wasp is also a member of the National Eagle Scout Association.

Mr. Wasp is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, and The U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
